Who Final Cut Pro is for

Apple pitches Final Cut Pro at everyone from beginners to seasoned pros, calling it “intuitive enough for editors who are just beginning”.2 It runs on Mac and iPad. The Mac app needs macOS 15.6 or later, and some features need Apple silicon or an internet connection.2

Editing centers on the Magnetic Timeline. Its machine-learning features include Magnetic Mask, transcription to captions, Visual Search, Transcript Search, Object Tracker, Enhance Light and Color, Smooth Slo-Mo and Beat Detection, and Apple says its AI features build on Apple Intelligence.1 Apple also points to “thousands of third-party plug-ins and templates” and the companion apps Motion and Compressor.1

As of October 2026, it’s a one-time $299.99 on the Mac App Store, or part of Apple Creator Studio at $12.99/month or $129/year with a 30-day free trial. The one-time purchase stays available, but some premium content is for subscribers only. See Apple’s Final Cut Pro FAQ.2

Where OpenVids differs

Windows and Mac
One editor on macOS and Windows, so a switch to a PC doesn’t mean a new tool. There is no iPad or phone version.
Agent-first
Describe the change and one of four agents (Main, Motion Designer, Audio or Research) makes it in Ask, Plan or Edit mode. The agents.
Review loop
Every result is a change you can review, and you can take over the timeline at any point.
Story Graph
Chapters hold the story; Build turns them into a cut. How it works.
Render QA and sources
An agent watches every render; Research tracks licenses and credits.
Free and open source
The code and releases are on GitHub. Your media stays on your disk.
