A Descript alternative for editing with agents.

Who Descript is for

Descript is built for podcasters, video creators and teams who want to “record, transcribe, edit, and publish in one tool”.1 Its core idea is text-based editing: deleting a word deletes that moment of video.1

Around that sit tools for spoken-word work: Studio Sound, Remove Filler Words, Create Clips, AI Speech voice clones, and dubbing on Business.2,10 It runs as a desktop app for macOS 14 or Windows 11 and newer, and in the browser.3,4

The free plan includes 60 media minutes a month and 720p exports with a watermark. Paid plans start at $16/month as of October 2026, with more media hours, AI credits and higher resolutions. See Descript’s pricing.2

Two agentic editors

Descript has its own agent, and it deserves a fair comparison. Underlord is Descript’s AI co-editor: you chat with it, and it makes edits such as captions, clips, animations and transitions.5,6 Each prompt uses AI credits, Descript notes that results are non-deterministic, and its model picker lists Claude, Gemini, GPT and Grok models.5 The pricing table lists Underlord from the Hobbyist plan up.2

OpenVids splits the work between four agents: Main on the cut, Motion Designer on titles, Audio on dialogue and music, Research on sources. Ask answers, Plan proposes, Edit changes the timeline. Every result is a change you can review or take over, and render QA watches each render. The agents.

One honest difference: OpenVids doesn’t edit through a transcript. If that’s how you like to work, Descript is built for it.

Where your work lives

Descript is cloud-first. Its help center says “Descript doesn’t support offline editing” and that edits are written to the cloud as you make them.7 It also says its production AI models use no Descript user data, and its internal research models use data only from users who opt in to sharing.8

OpenVids is a desktop app for macOS and Windows, and your media stays on your disk.
